A member asked:

I had my annual checkup at my gynecologist. told i have abnormal cervix cells and that i have to have a colposcopy. how does this happen? i'm nervous.

Abnormal pap/HPV: It is likely that you may have been exposed to the human papilloma virus (HPV) which can change the composition of the cervical cells. Your GYN MD wants to use a colposcope (microscope on wheels) to visualize the exact nature of the cells and perform any necessary samples of tissue(biopsies). The procedure is relatively "painless" except "pinching" at the biopsy performance.
