Depends: Each surgeon has their own protocol for diet after surgery. And it often depends on which procedure you have done. Generally speaking, however, you will likely be on liquids for a short period of time, and then advance from there to soft diet, to regular food. Just less of it.

Post-op diet: Well, i give my patients a whole binder regarding their diet after surgery so not enough room here. Basically, you go from liquids to solids in a 4-5 week period of time. After that, i suggest that patients eat mostly protein, vegetables, ; fruit, and try to avoid bread, rice, pasta, tortillas, and potatoes (carbs). You also want to avoid sweets ; other junk foods (including soda).
