Gallstones: You can take Ursodioxycholic acid (Urosodiol) which helps to prevent the formation of new stones, but it doesn't break down stones that are already there. In general, if you have gallstones that are causing you pain, surgery to remove your gallbladder is recommended, which is why this operation is the most commonly performed general surgery operation. 1 Million operations a year.

Drugs vs Lifestyle: Some people can manage their gallbladder symptoms by avoiding specific foods.
