Various possibilitie: the hormones that cause muscles to lose mass become more active with age after age 30. They are vastly increased by inflammation such as an infection (anywhere), inflammation, chronic disease of any sort. Go see ur Family Doc: Best advice when unexpectedly losing muscle & weight is to go see your Family Doc. Well, try to improve eating habits but assuming that you haven't changed diet, or exercise regimen, we worry about stuff like hyperthyroidism. After that, list of possibilities expands depending upon your medical, family & social history, all of which your Family Doc should know.
