I take nuvigil my new insurance boes not cover it they want me to switch to ritalin (methylphenidate) does it work the same as nuvigil?

No: They aren't the same and they work differently....and Ritalin (methylphenidate) is an amphetamine compound. Several things I suggest..first..see if they will cover Provigil instead. Its very similar and sometimes they'll do that since its a little cheaper. Secondly..go to Nuvigil.com. They have patient assistance and coupons there. Good luck.

Different meds: Nuvigil and Ritalin (methylphenidate) are different chemically. Nuvigil is given to improve wakefulness in adults with excessive sleepiness seen for example in narcolepsy. Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a stimulant that can also be given to adults for excessive daytime sleepiness. Please review with your prescribing doctor to decide what's best for you. Hope this helps.
