Don't : It may be safe but ineffective. Many meds degrade over time so you should get a new prescription after the expiration date. However, Ritalin (methylphenidate) is not usually taken on an as needed basis but rather every day regardless of symptoms that day. Why is yours over a year old?

Generally, yes.: As long as the med wasn't exposed to extreme environmental factors (heat, overly dry climate, etc.), oral tablets&capsules are "good" for much longer than the exp date. The military studied this many yrs ago, &found drop-off in effectiveness negligible for such meds for much more than a decade. Ritalinla is a reliable product w/ the type of characteristics that should hold up.Generics less certain.
