What are the causes of throbbing pain that originates in neck but shoots into head and eye?

See MD asap: Depending on any other symptoms you may have (were you lifting anything heavy recently; did you have a cold or other virus recently): neck pain shooting to the head and eye needs to be evaluated for a carotid dissection, which is rare. Otherwise it might be muscular pain, but vascular causes must be ruled out.
