No : No one can definitely diagnose your problem without more information and an examination. That said, you're correct to be concerned about ibuprofen, which is in the class of medications that we term "nsaid" (for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). Heat, stretching and time are all good remedies. Since this has been going on for 3 weeks, i'd suggest getting in to see your primary care doctor; most likely, they'll be able to diagnose this and offer definitive treatment options (i.e. Physical therapy, massage, et cetera). Good luck!

Many Causes: Most problems like this are due to muscular strain and ligament problems. Disk problems in the neck can also cause such pain. Lastly, primary shoulder problems can refer pain to the neck. Fortunately, most of these issues resolve without medical intervention and improve with rest, anti-inflamatories, heat or ice, and physical therapy, stretching etc.

You : You need to see a doctor based on the persistence of symptoms and the degree of pain. I personally like to use a cervical traction device which works really well. The most important thing is to establish the correct diagnosis in order to target care.

Neck pain: These symptoms could be caused by muscle spasm leading to nerve entrapment causing the pain in your neck and shoulder. However these could also be caused by vertebral displacement in which case surgery may be the cure. My suggestion is see your physician and have him get an MRI of your neck scheduled to rule out any surgical need.
