Maybe: I could not find information that linked sleep apnea to being the only cause of seizures. But it has been reported to worsen seizure activity that might have been caused by a stroke, scar or other cause. It also has been reported that seizures at nite during sleep might be misdiagnosed as sleep apnea. In any case both issues need to be evaluated and treated by an experienced specialists.

Absolutely possible: There is no question that sleep apnea can and does cause LOW ENOUGH O2 levels in the blood stream leading to metabolic changes quite easily resulting in epileptic activity. Bottom line- If mom has sleep apnea then, controlling that disorder can clearly improve her seizures. You can decide if you'd like to call it a cause or something else.
