Is it normal to feel one side of the cervical canal harder like a bone and the other side soft?

Bit confusing: slightly confusing question since there is a cervical spinal canal to talk about as well as a cervical canal through which a baby comes when being born. Which one are you referring to? Either way, being hard on one side and soft on the other doesn't quite make sense either. Could you explain the situation and anatomic location a little bit more?
