Those nodes work on serum that travel from the mouth and surrounding tissues. I believe your dentist has it right. If you are worried about cancer that is not the node I would first expect it to involve.

I believe your dentist is on the right track. You need the root canal therapy, that's a given. Have that completed and have the infection resolve. As time passes the enlarged lymph node should subside. If not, then it can be further investigated.

Sight unseen I'd venture hat your Den test is correct. Smart thing would be to listen to him/her. Abscessed( (infected) teeth will cause downstream lymph nodes to act as a pathogen traps. Please don't put off care.
