Blood control: there a ton of medications for diabetes. metformin or glucophage is just one. if this agent is not working you can try glyburide, januvia, victoza, (liraglutide) and much more. follow up with your provider to discuss options.

Good question!: Unfortunately, your excellent question is beyond the scope of a 400 character answer as there are at least 30 medicines and they act by different mechanisms and have different potential for side effects. Whole books have been written on this subject.
