Many possibilities: It might be that it is taking a longer than expected time to get better, or maybe the strep is resistant to whatever abx you are taking, or you possibly had a co-infection with EBV which is the virus that causes mono, so although the abx is working against the strep, the mono is dictating your symptoms.

Strep: how was your strep throat infection diagnosed? Did the doctor send a culture to the lab? If you're still having significant pain now six days after starting antibiotics, it would be important to have a follow-up visit with the doctor who prescribed you the medication. Over the counter throat lozenges and Chloraseptic spray can help with pain.
