Take Antiinflammtory: Medicine like Advil, Aleve or Ibuprofen to help with pain. Try Gargle with warm water,Use Liquid Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or NyQuil or Throat Lozenges to help soothing the Throat. Ginger tea is very good for this symptoms too. And get examined again by your doctor to make sure your Tonsillitis has resolved.

Go to ER now: If you can't swallow "a tiny little thin one" (sorry, you're probably too young for classic Monty Python scene), then you should go to ER for evaluation as you might have more than simple Strep throat (for which classic treatment is penicillin unless allergic). My biggest concern would be for retropharyngeal abscess (http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/764421-overview). Read while waiting in ER.
