Azithromycin : Azithromycin ( zithromax= z-pak) is a macrolide antibiotic in the Erythromycin family, and an alternative in the penicillin allergic patient. For someone like you, who doesn't like to take medicine, it can be given over 5 days instead of the conventional 10 days for Amoxicillin (which is in the penicillin family). Either one may be a reasonable choice for uncomplicated, previously untreated, strep throat. Compliance is also generally better in a drug given once daily (zithromax) vs 3x/day (amoxicillin).
