It depends: it depends mostly on how the HIDA scan is abnormal. HIDA scans help us evaluate the function of the gallbladder. If you're having typical pain and your gallbladder is not functioning normally, it is likely that you may need gallbladder surgery. You should discuss it with your surgeon and see what he or she has to say. Good luck.

Depends: HIDA scan can evaluate to make sure the cystic duct (duct going to gallbladder) is patent to rule out acute cholecystitis. It can also evaluate patency of the common bile duct (duct going to bowel) which can be blocked for several reasons. Lastly, gallbladder contraction can be evaluated if CCK is administered. The treatment will depend on which of these is abnormal.
