A member asked:

I just used a q tip in my ear because my mom saw black and when she pulled it out there was blood and ear wax but when i put the other end blood was o?

Scratch: The likely source of the blood is abrasion to the ear canal wall caused by the q-tip, if not at this time, then previously. In general, we advise you never use a q-tip or any solid device in your ear as it is a blind procedure and you're likely to impact the wax (push it against the drum). Liquids are okay like warmed oil, hydrogen peroxide, or cerumenex. Doctors use an otoscope or mirror to see.
