A member asked:

The caruncle in my left eye looks red and twice as big as the one in my right eye. could this be an indication of sebaceous gland carcinoma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rare: Sebaceous cell carcinoma of the periocular tissues of the eye primarily arises from the meibomian glands of the eyelid. It has rarely been reported to arise from the caruncular sebaceous glands. Your caruncle may be irritated and inflamed from allergies, dryness, or infection. If painful, discharge, nodular swelling within the adjacent skin of the nose, you may have a nasolacrimal duct obstruction
