Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Gastroesophageal ref: Gastric bypass is used for obesity, not bad gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or acid reflux. If H2 blockers like Ranitidine don't work for GERD, next step is PPI (proton pump inhibitor) such as omeprazole, which is now available OTC w/o prescription. Levothyroxine is used to treat hypothyroidism which, if left un(der)treated can make weight loss difficult.

Maybe: Gastric bypass is a potential solution for some obese patients with GERD. See an experienced general surgeon specializing in bariatrics (weight loss surgery) for a consultation to find out more.
