2 grams daily: A study at UT Southwestern found that ingestion of 2 grams of vitamin C daily resulted in a statistically higher urinary oxalate concentration than in the placebo group. Since oxalate is a major component of calcium stones, the conclusion of the study was that one should ingest less than 2 grams of vitamin C daily.

Vitamin C: Too much of a good thing can be bad as you imply with your question. The important factor with kidney stones is fluid intake. When the kidneys have too many solids to filter, microcrystals will begin to form stones. Excessive vitamins contribute to this problem. I would say 500-1000 mg/day is reasonable, but if you have a FH for stones, use caution here. Drink more, especially in the summer!
