Absolutely: For most people, animal proteins are a main source of bioavailable iron. People eating a vegan or vegetarian diet should make sure that they are getting enough through eating plant sources high in iron or supplementing. Beans and dark green leafy vegetables are especially good sources of iron, eating foods rich in vitamin C or taking C along with iron supplements can aid absorption.
