See below: Ferritin of 9 is low and indicates iron deficiency. The usual cause in a menstruating female is loss of iron from your period. Each ml of blood contains 1 mg of iron (Red blood cells contain iron as component of hemoglobin). Over time you can become iron deficient. Ask your physician for guidance as to which iron supplement to take.
