A member asked:

Hello, i recently had a blood test done and the results showed low ferritin level but my iron levels were normal. i consume a diet high in vegetables, lentils and beans. my platelets count was 260 in the recent blood work but last year it was 266?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, it would have helped had you provided the value of ferritin. Women tend to be iron deficient due to menstrual blood loss. It would be okay to take oral iron. Wish you good health
