Hard to know: But not allergies. Uncontrolled allergic rhinitis can leave you susceptible to sinus/bronchial infection. If viral, expect this to last 7-10 days. The lesion in the mouth needs to be examined to know more. Bacterial pharyngitis (submucosal infection that can quickly pass through tissue planes and is serious) is possible, but seems less likely (throat pain would overshadow other symptoms).
