My podiatrist put a chemical on were he took a piece of my ingrown nail out so it won't grow back but i think it's infected? what do i do?

Call the podiatrist: definitely call your doctor. In the meantime, soak your great toe twice a day for 10 minutes in either Epson salt and warm water or white vinegar and warm water. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the area. Make sure you see your doctor. You may need an oral antibiotic.

Infected/inflamed?: If the nail was worked on recently it could be that the nail surgery site is merely inflamed. This is caused by the chemical burning the tissues that it came in contact with. The tissue now has to drain. If the wound becomes dry, then the drainage cannot occur properly. The wound becomes plugged up and will have to be attended to. This can be helped by soaking the toe in nothing but cool water.

Matrixectomy: Permanent toenail corrections are performed often by Chemical Destruction of the toenail root. These chemicals are either acids or bases, but regardless they are considered chemical burns and may become infected. Any worsening pain, swelling or redness should be considered potentially infected and should be treated as such. Soaks and topical antibiotics are standard, but oral may be required
