Pinched nerve: If the numbness is in the first 3 fingers the problem is most likely carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a problem in which the median nerve gets pinched at the wrist. It often occurs during sleep, driving a car, typing, or talking on the phone. If the numbness is in the 4th and 5th fingers it is likely from the ulnar nerve being punched at the elbow..
