A member asked:

What is the best way to taper off ambien (zolpidem)? have been taking for 5 years 10mg every night.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No "best" way.: A common way would be to take 5 mg for about a week and then stop. That would certainly avoid withdrawal effects. But you may find that you have trouble sleeping, in a way that zolpidem helped with. Then you may chose between resuming zolpidem or trying alternative insomnia treatments.
