A member asked:

My mom had a stroke yesterdayand now she is having a fever. will she still recover? is it common to have a fever after having a stroke?

Non usually: Stroke doesn't usually cause fever so I'd be concerned that she has 2 problems. Sometimes when someone has a stroke, they aspirate their saliva (or food) and get a pneumonia. Her outlook depends on the extent of the stroke, her overall condition, her other medical issues, and if/how quickly she starts to get better. So sorry - hope she recovers quickly.

Fever is common: Regulation of temperature is altered in patients that have strokes. there are other causes of fever and should be explored if fever persists.
