A member asked:

I went off my nexium because of loose stools and took zantac for a couple of days..the zantac didn't work so i went back on the nexium it has been a few days and i'm still having stomach problems...how long can it take for the nexium to work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Try tapering off: Try tapering off nexium (esomeprazole) by taking it every other day for about 2 weeks. You can overlap with Zantac daily as needed during this time frame. If the loose stools persists or is associated with weight loss this could indicate microscopic (lymphocytic colitis) related to chronic nexium (esomeprazole) use. This as well as other possible causes of the diarrhea should then be investigated by your physician.
