Maybe, maybe not: There are many criteria for removing tonsils. Frequent strep infections, peritonsillar abscess, strep carrier state, airway obstruction. If your child clears between infections and is not a strep carrier, the operation may not be necessary. Have a candid discussion with your doctor who has your child's records. Good luck.

Frustrating = yes: As with many issues in healthcare, the parent is faced with championing a cause they believe in, but really have little choice. If it were left to parents, in a world where you paid out of pocket for all evaluation & treatment, you might get this done easier. In a world where the insurer decides who meets criteria for tonsil removal, the docs have no choice. We need a change.
