A member asked:

I had pain in my back for a year doc cant find nothing i mri and they told me is a lumbago i been taking narcotics for over a year n pain never go ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Multidisciplinary: Back pain can be frustrating and debilitating, and frequently does not respond well to narcotic medications. Long-term narcotics can, in fact, increase pain sensitivity. If there is muscle spasm with no underlying clinically identifiable physical cause, physical therapy can be helpful. Anxiety can contribute to muscle tightness, learning coping mechanisms may help (back pain books are available).
