Back MRI: The use of MRI in nowdays practice is way over than needed. For back issues, it is only good if surgery is considered, the diagnosis is unclear or there is suspicion for malignancy. If you know you have sciatica, conservative measures would have to be exhausted before MRI is considered unless history and physical suggest another reason for your pain.
