A 42-year-old female asked:
i have an enlarged appendix, should i worry about it, my doctor said that i'm fine?

Enlarged appendix: I don't know what test you had done that said your appendix is large. A CT scan can usually show if is suspicious of anything to be concerned about. Although it's rare, an enlarged appendix can indicate a problem. You could have a mucocele or a benign or malignant tumor such as a carcinoid. Colonoscopy can see the opening of the appendix and if you haven't had one, see a gastroenterologist

What is the role and function of appendix?

Unknown.: It is uncertain if the appendix plays a minor role in immune function in infancy. What is certain is that it can be removed safely with no obvious long-term side effects and clearly has no major physiologic role in adult life.

A 35-year-old member asked:
Are there any risks with removing your appendix?
2 doctor answers • 3 doctors weighed in

Dr. Barry Rosenanswered
General Surgery 34 years experience
Yes.: The appendix serves no function that we are aware of, therefore, people do very well without one. If caught early and removed prior to rupture, appendectomy is a low-risk procedure, with low complication rates comparable to any abdominal surgery. If the appendix has ruptured, there is a risk of developing a delayed infection weeks after surgery.

Cramping on the right side. Is it appendix?

Could be many things: Cramping may be simple as muscle spasms and tension or something more involved such as a hernia or appendicitis. If you notice difficulty with meals, bowel/bladder issues, fevers/chills, or severe knife-like pain definitely have it investigated.
