Sleep entry disorder: A working concept places this process as a sleep entry disorder. The idea is that a short or longer term deficit in restorative sleep, leads to a rapid entry into deep sleep instead of the usual glide through stages. The events are similar in sleep talking/walking/terrors. Sometimes altering the pre-sleep schedule to allow as little as a half hour more/day can reduce/end the episodes.
