Every night?: Most children outgrow their night terrors but it can take 1 to 2 years. Some children have them 2-3 times per week. If this is happening on a nightly basis, it may be best to follow with the pediatrician as there can be medicines or behavior techniques which help.

Keep calm: Night terrors are a sleep disturbance where the child is not actually awake. It can cause crying, thrashing around, etc. Don't wake him up- it just confuses him- just be calm and soothing until he falls asleep. Many times these occur during periods of change. Talk with him during the day to see if there are any new stresses and help him deal with them. They do usually improve gradually on their own.

Better sleep times: Many of these kids will respond to increasing available sleep times by as little as half an hour/day. The pattern may reflect a sleep entry that is to dramatic, often aggravated by poor sleep/missing bedtimes.Meds are available but only help transiently.
