Ear infection: You asked a very good question and the best answer I can think of is inflammation in your grand daughter's ear is causing the fluid build up. By dropping that inflammation, the fluid should drain out. I highly recommend you talk to her doctor about your questions and concerns next time and don't leave until you feel comfortable with the treatment plan.

The doctor: prescribed Flonase, so it could open up the Eustachian tube, which ordinarily drains the middle ear, ending in the nose,. So using this nose spray will help open it up and drain the fluid from the middle ear. Makes sense to me.
