A member asked:

Why does the doctor clean your skin before getting a blood test done?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

To avoid infection: Taking blood involves inserting a needle into a vein. If the skin is not cleaned before the needle stick, the microorganisms on the skin can gain entry into the blood stream, or infect the skin injured by the needle stick.
