A member asked:

My incisive papilla is very swollen and tender. would this more likely be a cyst or an abscess?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cysts/Two flavors: A pus producing mass may be covered with a cystic membrane, abscess. A developmental mass may have the same covering. It is highly possible there has been trauma to the area. Crust of bread, heat are two common sources. Once the papilla is swollen it is easy to hit it with the lower teeth and perpetuate the swelling.
