Gastric inflammation: Often what looks inflamed on endoscopy does not prove to be anything serious. But some forms of gastritis, such as atrophic gastritis might be cause for treatment before surgery. Additionally, though rare at your age, some gastric cancers can look like inflammation to the endoscopist. The pathologist's microscopic exam takes a day or tow, but can prevent a costly mis-step.
