What could it be if submandibular gland area occasionally swells then reduces to slightly enlarged within hours?

Chronic inflammation: Usually a sign of chronic inflammation. It can also be due to stones in the gland or duct, autoimmune syndromes, small tumor blocking the duct etc. It should be checked out by an ENT for safety.
