I have a very tender submandibular lump node or gland under jaw towards left but not enlarged. why is this?

Possible infection: likely an enlarged lymph node (gland); these enlarge when your body is fighting off infection. Any other symptoms or pain? Fever? Usually they go away after they kill off the infection. You can take Motrin as needed for pain.
