Lose weight: Not to sound unkind, but weight loss is the only alternative.

Remove processed foods from your diet, increase your physical activity and decrease your stress level. Toxins, cortisol (from stress and lack of sleep), processed foods increase (belly) fat and fat in general.

Do you exercise?: Try targeted abdominal exercises such as crunches, russian twists, planks, etc/ Be consistent and do your workouts 3-4 times per week. Concentrate on techniquie, rather than speed and number of sets done and you won't have to spend hours in the gym to get the results you desire

Can't determine...: ...without exam, but weight management thru varied exercise and lo-carb diet is always a good idea and suction-assisted lipectomy (liposuction) may have a place.

That depends . . .: A tummy tuck repairs muscle and eliminates excess skin. There's diet, exercise, and other surgical and non-surgical procedures that address fat, excess skin, or muscle repair - but none that addresses all of those concerns and repairs a separated rectus abdominis muscle. Do you need help from a family member or friend after a tummy tuck?

Yes: Yes, you must have someone with you for the first 24 hours following surgery or we can not perform the surgery. If you do not have a family member, most plastic surgeons can provide a list of nursing services who can be hired to stay with you. Additionally, it is best to have someone with you for several days if possible.

Depends: A tummy tuck removes excess skin and tightens the abdominal wall under the skin. If a patient does not get pregnant again or does not gain a lot of weight after the surgery, it should last many (20+) years.

A few weeks: The initial healing phase takes about 3 weeks. However, healing continues for several weeks after that and the scar will continue to mature for many months.

What are the risks or potential complications of getting a tummy tuck?

Dr. Timothy King
Plastic Surgery 20 years experience
Depends: The risks of any surgery depend on your overall health. If you are healthy the risks include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, poor scarring, partial skin loss, a blood clot in your leg which could travel to your lungs, & even death. As it is very important to understand the risks, i recommend talking to a board certified plastic surgeon to understand what your individual risks are.

Close enough: But , penniculectomy , is removing excessive fat fold which is constant source of infection , as it is related to the disease is covered by insurance most of the time , in tummy tuck in addition , abdominal wall will be tightened if they are weak , umbilicus is also repositioned done by plastic surgeons , insurance may not cover a cosmetic procedure , speak to your surgeon will explain to you.
