Naproxen & Ankle Ten: Not recommended to take it chronically on a daily basis because of kidney deterioration. She should hopefully only need Naproxen for less than 2-4 weeks in order to treat acute ankle tendonitis. She can discontinue Naproxen abruptly without any side effects. Voltaren gel (diclofenac) is a topical NSAID that would be even better for your daughter's ankle. Apply directly to the source of pain.

Cause not clear: There are many reasons for tendonitis. If there is a need for a full evaluation discuss with her physician about seeing a Rheumatologist. Tendonitis can be mechanical or part of an inflammatory polyarthritis. This is what will be evaluated.
