Yes.: A noncontrast brain MRI can detect MS lesions. However, the addition of contrast can increase the sensitivity of detecting smaller and more active lesions.

Yes, it can: MRI is definitely terrific in demonstrating MS lesions. The newer ones which would be contrast positive allow us to make treatment decisions and changes. The older lesions can be seem chronically on a non-contrast MRI.
