Heme onc doc: If platelets were low with diagnosis of ITP and now wbc are low with absolute neutrophil count of only 710, there is going to be a concern of cancer. If not already seen by hematologist, I would recommend evaluation by one ASAP. Is his hemoglobin also low showing any sign of anemia? Any fevers or poor weight gain.
