Mostly just GB: US will the gallbladder, stones if any, most of the time bile ducts, and part of the liver that is next to gallbladder. It can tell us if liver is fatty or its size of too large for example, but nothing very specific.

Both: In performing an ultrasound, both the liver and gallbladder with bile duct are seen. Some degree of liver texture can be seen, or some nodule or cyst of the liver can be see if they are large enough. Sometimes the kidneys and pancreas can be seen too.

Protocols may vary: between facilities, but generally the liver would be included in the examination.
