A member asked:

Would it be highly unlikely for a 25 year old with only occasional acid reflux to have barrettes esophagus already? pathologists only please

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Every case is different. Barrett changes are usually seen in severe reflux that is poorly controlled; however, everyone is different and I have seen cases of Barrett in much younger patients. Some with Barrett are asymptomatic. Most however have significant symptoms. So, if you only have occasional mild reflux and no other issues, you likely have nothing to worry about. Hope this helps!
