Ween off of lexapro (escitalopram): The best way is gradually wean off on a weekly basis, so don't have a withdraw type of reaction. Usually when weaning off this medicine, many patients will be placed on another SSRI initially at low dose. Some patients who have adverse effect from Lexapro (escitalopram) might have to stop it or quit the medicine quickly, and hopefully no reaction occurs. Lexapro (escitalopram) is for depression +/or OCD, so be careful.

Slowly, very slowly: and with the help of your prescribing MD. Lexapro, Paxil and Effexor, (venlafaxine) and more recently Cymbalta and even Zoloft now are becoming renowned for creating very unpleasant symptoms as you stop them. The usual is to reduce the dose by a third or half every so many days, but this is dependent upon your starting dose, body weight, metabolism and other things a MD should assess. Don't do this alone.
