My beta hcg came back at 788 at exactly 5 weeks today... my ultrasound showed a gestational sac at approximately 4mm big. is this normal?

Usually repeat: Too early. If you are 5 weeks then it is too early to see a fetus on sonogram. Typically the doctor would have you come back for a repeat sonogram in the next 1-2 weeks.
