Yes: If the temperature is really 96 rectally, and your child is starting to look bad (lethargy, not drinking, dry mucous membranes, and/ or decreased urine output) then the ED is a very good place to be for assessment and rehydration. Low temperature could be a sign of severe dysregulation and an almost shock--like appearance.

Babies behaviour: Temperature is not a guide and temp can fluctuate between 96 and 101 degree F and it may not be a reason to take to ER.You have to observe how he is acting and behaving.He has had diarrhea all day.Did he drink enough fluids,has he been n passing urine and is he playful and otherwise happy as compared to lethargic and irritable If he has any of these signs then take to ER.
